Montessori Education
Child-centered learning that nurtures independence, curiosity, and lifelong skills
Montessori education was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician who observed how children learn naturally. Rather than traditional teacher-led instruction, the method is built around each child's interests, hands-on materials, and mixed-age classrooms. At Friendship Corner Daycare, we bring these principles to life every day for children from 30 months to school age.
Core Principles
- Child-centered learning β children choose activities and learn at their own pace
- Hands-on materials β math, language, and sensorial learning through concrete objects
- The absorbent mind β ages 0β6 learn effortlessly from their environment
- Mixed-age classrooms β younger children learn from older peers; older children reinforce by teaching
- Extended work periods β long blocks for deep concentration
- Whole-child development β intellectual, physical, emotional, and social growth together
- Teacher as guide β educators facilitate rather than lecture
