BC Early Childhood Education (ECE)
British Columbia's Early Learning Framework, and how we put it into practice
British Columbia's Early Learning Framework guides early learning from birth to age 8. It applies to child care, preschools, StrongStart BC programs, and primary classrooms. The framework supports well-being, belonging, exploration, communication, and positive identities β and it shapes how licensed daycares like Friendship Corner deliver care and learning.
What It Is
The BC Early Learning Framework is a guide for educators, families, and professionals. It encourages dialogue with families about their child's learning, shapes professional development, and creates a shared understanding of the importance of early years. It recognizes families as the first teachers and primary caregivers of their children.
Key Learning Areas
- Well-being and belonging β feeling safe, valued, and connected
- Exploration and play β engaging with others, materials, and the world
- Communication and literacies β language, expression, and multiple ways of knowing
- Identities, social responsibility, and diversity β respect, inclusion, and community
Licensing & Quality
Friendship Corner is a Licensed Group Daycare under BC's child care licensing regulations. Our practices align with the Early Learning Framework: we support play-based learning, family partnership, and the holistic development of each child in a safe, inclusive environment.
How We Align
We combine the Early Learning Framework with Montessori education. Our prepared environment, mixed-age groups, and focus on independence and respect support the framework's goals. We work closely with families and maintain high standards for health, safety, and development.
